Why become an early riser?

As a student, time is limited. Being an early riser was my first and foremost step to becoming a more productive and happy person. Convinced already? Find out how to become an early riser in a week. Why should you go through hell to join such a club? Well, I can name 5 excuse-free reasons.

1. Be super-productive longer.

Do the math: I don’t (or rather can’t) work productively after dinner, which is at 7pm every day. It’s also a bad habit to work up until bedtime.

Waking at 5 gives you the extra time every day before the dinner dizziness sets in.

2. Play out the uninterrupted genius.

If there’s one time of day you can do what you want without being questioned or interrupted, it’s this block of time before the world gets up.

3. Conquer yourself and your morning ritual.

Without time for yourself, you will perish. Trust me, your grades will reflect a stressed out, unhappy person. Morning rituals need time, and you’ll be ready for the day in a way you won’t believe.

4. Control the day (and don’t let it control you).

I usually sit up to my desk in the morning and check my calendar for impending doom. Then I decide how I can fight the overlords from hell as they try to rip my life apart. I’m sure you can relate.

5. Pursue your passions.

When I joined college, my great passion, the classical guitar, took a back seat in my life. That changed with the early riser habit. Practicing guitar is the first real thing I do every day now, before hitting the books for a head start into the day.

Apart from that, there’s a simple logic here: Utilize time buffers.

To illustrate: A business meeting begins with smalltalk and preparatory meta-speak before jumping into work. It also ends with meta-speak and smalltalk.

Thats how your day works, too. Be prepared, and you’ll be able to take the most out of the crucial days leading up to the exams.

Have you ever tried becoming an early riser? Ever dealt with the party-hangover-8oclock-lecture dilemma? Do tell!

Thanks for this! My roommate is an early riser and she always seems to have her stuff together. I think waking up early and working out can definitely be a good way to start the day. The few times I’ve managed to do it, I’ve always been grateful.
